In need of debt relief and experiencing collector problems?

Louisiana is home to many people who are currently facing serious financial problems. Some were hit with unforeseen medical expenses while others unexpectedly lost their jobs. There are also those whose spending got out of hand, landing them in the midst of financial crisis. No matter what underlying factors may have caused financial distress, finding viable debt relief solutions are likely high priority to those trying to restore financial stability.

Accomplishing debt relief goals is not easy when debt collectors are ringing one's phone off the hook. People who work in this capacity are not free to say and do whatever they like to try to collect a debt. They are overseen by strict regulations that stem from the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. For one thing, they must clearly identify themselves every time they call.

A debt collector must also be willing to provide the name and address of the original creditor. He or she must also inform the consumer that the opportunity to dispute the debt is guaranteed. A consumer may also request verification of a particular debt. Collection phone calls must occur during reasonable hours, which are typically considered 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in a given local time zone.

A consumer may send a written refusal to pay a debt and to request a stop to debt collection calls. A creditor in question must then choose whether to stop pursuing debt collection or to enter litigation. Any Louisiana resident who wishes to explore debt relief options may reach out for support from an experienced attorney, who will also know what to do to protect one's rights against debt collector harassment.
