Meet Kayla Mullen, a Legal Assistant at Simon Fitzgerald LLC in the Shreveport office. Kayla helps clients and attorneys stay organized throughout the bankruptcy process by assisting with client questions, appointments, payments, taxes, intake documents, and front-desk support.
On a typical day, Kayla can be found answering phones, completing paperwork, uploading tax documents, scanning files, helping clients, assisting paralegals, and supporting the attorneys. She works with J. Lee Dunford, Keith M. Welch, L. Laban Levy, and Kevin R. Molloy, helping make sure clients have the documents, appointments, and information they need as their case moves forward.
Kayla enjoys interacting with clients because every person has a different story. She understands that many people feel nervous when they hear the word “bankruptcy.” Her goal is to reassure clients that they are not alone and that the team at Simon Fitzgerald LLC is here to help them understand the process, gather what is needed, and feel more comfortable along the way.
One of the most meaningful parts of Kayla’s work is seeing clients feel relief as they move through their case and begin to see a path forward. She takes pride in helping clients feel calmer, more confident, and less overwhelmed. Whether she is helping collect documents, keeping appointments organized, taking payments, or answering questions, Kayla works to provide kindness, clear communication, and helpful support.
Kayla’s interest in the legal field began early. As a child, she went through a custody matter involving her parents, and the attorney who helped during that time inspired her to pursue a legal career. Kayla has always wanted to help people, and she believes working in the legal field gives her the chance to do that while gaining valuable experience.
Before joining Simon Fitzgerald LLC, Kayla worked for BOM Bank as a Teller I and Teller II for two years. That experience gave her a helpful perspective on financial issues and client service. She later earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science from Louisiana State University Shreveport in 2025. She graduated cum laude with a 3.5 GPA, was a first-generation college graduate, and earned multiple honors, including recognition through the National Honor Society and a political science honor society.
Kayla believes Simon Fitzgerald LLC stands out because the firm listens to clients and cares about their needs. She wants prospective clients to know that the attorneys and staff work hard each day to help clients feel heard, respected, and supported. To Kayla, compassion means putting herself in someone else’s shoes and remembering that you never know what another person may be going through.
Outside of work, Kayla enjoys shopping, traveling, getting her nails done, listening to country music, and spending time with friends and family. She recently got married to her husband, Braden, and they have known each other since they were seven years old. She also has two pets: a cat named Gizmo and a dog named Lola Jade. Kayla enjoys vacation Bible school with her local church and previously volunteered with Pet Savers. She loves sushi, Mexican food, Mardi Gras, gumbo, shrimp and grits, king cake, and hockey season. Her favorite teams include the LSU Tigers, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Stars, and Mudbugs Hockey. A fun fact about Kayla is that she is absolutely terrified of clowns.
